Post #1: My library’s newest technology

It’s a good thing I’m taking this class now because my library (Roosevelt University) has just recently started using two new types of technology–a blog and a podcast.  I’d been wondering what kinds of information librarians put on blogs, so I took a look at the one my library just started.  The librarians who write it–Jake, Martinique, and Jen–have done a great job so far of making it fun and interesting to read.  It includes info such as the latest on new databases, a blurb about banned books week, “what is Roosevelt reading?”, and a rather creative idea–”ask Ms. Information–she’ll answer your questions.”  There are still some kinks to be worked out regarding design and such–the columns look a little odd–but so far, I think they’ve got it off to a great start!  Anyone who wants to check it out can see it at http://rulibrary.typepad.com/.

Roosevelt’s Performing Arts Library also recently started recording podcasts, called the “PAL podcasts.”  It’s just a chance to get the performing arts library voice out there.  The most recent one they did was about a display created by one of the student workers on “oddities”–quirky works and composers, etc.  I’m having trouble accessing it right now, but I’ll try and send the link another time.  Definitely good stuff to check out!

This is my first blog post!

Greetings!

My name is Carrie and I’m in my second year in the LIS program at Dominican U.  I’m enjoying learning about blogging.  This is my first post!
